.nz Domain Names with macrons – Internationalised Domain Names
Beginning in Māori Language week 2010 (26 July – 01 August), registrations of .nz domain names which include macrons over the vowels will be available to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is a macron?
The written form of the Māori language, te reo, uses macrons over vowels to denote an extension of the sound of the vowel. Up until Māori Language week 2010, domain names within the .nz space are not able to include these characters. From then on, it will be possible to have a domain name which accurately reflects one of New Zealand’s official languages, Māori.
The extra characters that can be used are ā, ē, ī, ō and ū.
Apply now for a variant of your existing .nz Domain Name
An online application form is available for use during the Sunrise Period.
During the Sunrise Period, only registrants of current .nz domain names can request the versions of their names with macrons. Once the Sunrise Period has concluded, anyone will be able to register a name with a macron in it, including variations of names that are already registered to other people.
